Changes affecting Vehicles, Machinery and Self-Propelled Units
2.2.2012
Dear Valued Customer,
We wish to inform /remind you of new regulations regarding shipments of vehicles/machinery and self-propelled units under Amendment 35-10 of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (the Code). These changes became effective on January 1, 2012 and apply to several categories of vehicles/machinery and self-propelled units powered by various sources. In light of these changes, Seafreight Line will require an IMO Declaration for all vehicles/machinery and self-propelled units as defined in the Code. For your guidance, we have included a summary of these changes obtained from the National Cargo Bureau which you may find helpful. However, for complete information you should refer to relevant section of the Code or consult a certified hazmat specialist. Copies of the IMDG Code can be purchased either in digital format or in traditional paper book form on line at maritimecompliance.com or from imo.org.
Please note that under Special Provision 961 (SP961) an exemption may be granted if any of the requirements under items 1, 2 and 3 are met and a signed statement on shipper’s letterhead is provided stating which requirement of SP961 has been met.
Seafreight Line does not operate roll-on/roll-off vessels therefore the exemption for carriage by specially equipped ro/ro vessels does not apply to Seafreight customers.
As always, we thank your for choosing Seafreight Line. Your business is greatly appreciated.
