Grenada has won its 9th Gold Medal at the Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show taking place in London, UK.
“Castaway”, the name of the exhibit, depicts the impact of climate change posed to the tiny Caribbean Island.
“Grenada chairs the Association of Small Island States (AOSIS) made up of more than 40 small islands from around the world”, says Suzanne Gaywood, Team Leader. “We want to send a clear message about the importance of preserving the natural riches of islands like Grenada for future generations. Action now to embrace sustainability can help to ensure Grenada survives as a paradise for the castaways of today and tomorrow, and RHS Chelsea provides an opportunity to raise environmental awareness. A feature of the 2011 exhibit is a bamboo shack topped with a traditional straw roof and the main focus is the flamboyant array of flowers foliage and spices which adorn the scene.
The exhibit is sponsored by SeaFreight Line in conjunction with The Grenada Board of Tourism; British Airways (Grenada); Virgin Atlantic; and other well wishing supporters.
