Grenada wins 10th Gold at the Chelsea Flower Show, London

5.22.2012

Grenada has won its 10th Gold Medal at the Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show taking place in London, UK.
“Tropical Paradise”, the name of the exhibit, was a big hit with the crowd including HM Queen of England, Piers Morgan, Jerry Hall, Ringo Starr and a number of other celebrities. Says Suzanne Gaywood, Team Leader, “Legend has it that if you push a stick into the ground anywhere on the island of Grenada, it will grow. This is due to the fertile soil, plentiful rainfall and perfect climate in which spice trees grow in abundance alongside tropical and subtropical plants of every description.” The features of the 2012 exhibit are Heliconias, gingers, musas, anthuriums, orchids and other rain forest plants adorning a rustic circular pavilion in an explosion of colour and scents to create a Tropical Paradise that provides an authentic taste of Grenada. The fresh blooms and spices were grown in Grenada by members of the Chelsea team and arranged to Suzanne’s design. The exhibit is sponsored by The Horticultural Society Of Grenada, SeaFreight Line, British Airways in conjunction with The Grenada Board of Tourism and other well wishers.
